After years of working in retail, starting and ending their own businesses, longtime friends Maritza Arrua and Vanessa Alvino decided to take a chance and open their own store. In June 2003, The Kids Are Alright came to be in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles. The main goal was to create a fun and comfortable shopping environment that features smaller independant clothing lines and accessories. Visually they started by finding vintage pieces from schools and incorporated them as display fixtures. You’ll find everything from globes, to chalkboards and lockers loaded with great gift items.

After 4 years in Echo Park they decided it was time to open another store.
In October 2007, The Kids Are Alright expanded to the up and coming Belmont Heights neighborhood in Long Beach. Finally in December 2007 the online store was launched!!

Unfortunately due to an expired lease and the location being sold the Echo Park store closed in June 2008. But The Kids… are still hanging strong in Long Beach. So if you’re ever in the neighborhood stop in and say “Hi”!!
